Kindergarten - Positional Words

The Kindergartners 2nd project had them focus on their listening skills and deciphering positional words.  The new vocabulary included words such as Above, Below, Inside, Next to, Under, On, Left and Right.

We started asking what these positional words meant and playing a game where they physically acting them out.  They were then challenged to follow one and two part verbal directives based on these positional words to complete an art composition.

In the second part of this lesson, they were  introduced to the almighty Horizon Line in art.  Understanding the horizon line is important because it asks our young students to carefully observe what they see in nature  instead of just relying upon what they think they see.  More specifically, they learn that in a landscape drawing, the sky comes all the way down to the ground at the horizon line.  It took studying multiple photographs of nature before they are truly convinced.
